FAA Wildlife Strike Database

    Background

The wildlife strike database has been compiled from wildlife strike report information. The purpose of the database is to help researchers learn more about the wildlife strike problem. The database helps to provide information about wildlife strike risk factors, possible risk reduction measures, and an evaluation of the effectiveness of these measures. Data from the wildlife strike database are analyzed and published annually - see Wildlife Strikes to Civil Aircraft in the United States 1990 - 2006 (FAA) Annual Report or Some Significant Wildlife Strikes to Civil Aircraft in the United States (1990 - 2007) (US Dept of Agriculture) NWRC-Ohio Field Station.

     Wildlife Strike Reporting

Reporting of wildlife strikes is crucial to getting the most out of the wildlife strike database. The more strikes that are reported (FAA Form 5200-7), the more data there will be from which to gather a greater understanding of the wildlife strike problem. The FAA now provides electronic filing for wildlife strike reports at Wildlife Strike Report.
