International Bird Strike Work

For locations outside of the United States, bird strike hazard mitigation is also being performed. The International Bird Strike Committee has been formed to help reduce the bird strike threat to commercial, military and private aviation by analyzing bird strike data in order to better understand the bird strike problem and arrive at conclusions regarding effective bird strike risk reduction measures. The following countries have also established bird strike hazard mitigation groups to help understand and reduce the bird strike threat:
  • Canada: Transport Canada This site is one of the most comprehensive bird strike information sources. Transport Canada has collected much information regarding bird strikes, and wildlife control measures, and has compiled this information into a manual that is available at this web site. Also see Birdstrike Committee Canada.

  • Israel: In recent years, the Israel Air Force has lost more planes to bird strikes than to enemy pilots and missiles. The Israel Air Force is currently investigating migratory bird tracking systems in order to understand and reduce bird strike risk.

  • Italy: Italian Bird Strike Committee This site is being developed by the Italian Bird Strike Committee in order to make information publicly available about bird strike hazards and statistics.

  • United States: U.S. Bird Strike Committee The U.S Bird Strike Committee is devoted to reducing the danger and cost of wildlife strikes to aviation. The committee holds annual meetings to discuss the effectiveness of current wildlife control methods at the airport.
